"The 5-year-old space age I'm talking about dates back to June 21, 2004, when the SpaceShipOne rocket plane became the first privately developed craft to carry a civilian astronaut into outer space."

SpaceShipOne now hangs in the National Air and Space Museum in Washington D.C.

'N' is the prefix for US-registered aircraft;
'328KF' stand for 328 kilo feet (about 100 kilometers),
The original choice of registry number, N100KM, was already taken. N328KF is registered as a glider, reflecting the fact that most of its independent flight is unpowered.

Space Ship One 2004/6/21
Flight 15P on June 21, 2004, was SpaceShipOne's first spaceflight, and the first privately funded human spaceflight. Ansari X PRIZE flights followed, with flight 17P on October 4, 2004, winning the prize.

"SpaceShipOne was developed by Mojave Aerospace Ventures (A joint venture between Paul Allen and Scaled Composites, Burt Rutan's aviation company, in their Tier One program), without government funding. On June 21, 2004, it made the first privately funded human spaceflight, and on October 4, it won the $10 million Ansari X PRIZE, by reaching 100 kilometers in altitude twice in a two-week period with the equivalent of three people on board, with no more than ten percent of the non-fuel weight of the spacecraft replaced between flights. Development costs were estimated to be $25 million, funded completely by Paul Allen."

Viking
Voyager

Space Ship One

"Dawn Re-Lights the Ionic Fire 06.08.09
Dawn's three ion engines will accumulate 2,000 days of operation.
Mission controllers at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., have received a transmission from the Dawn spacecraft confirming it has re-ignited its ion propulsion system. Dawn is currently 299 million kilometers (185.6 million miles) from Earth.
At that distance, it takes almost 17 minutes for a transmission from the spacecraft to arrive on Earth. "Dawn Mission Home Page

NASA's next venture into the solar system is the Dawn mission, planned for launch in October 2007.

Dawn Mission

"The Dawn spacecraft contains three instruments (GRaND, Visible Infrared Spectrometer, and the Framing Camera) that will provide new answers to questions about the formation and evolution of the early solar system."

The 5-year-old space age - msnbc.com
"The 5-year-old space age I'm talking about dates back to June 21, 2004, when the SpaceShipOne rocket plane became the first privately developed craft to carry a civilian astronaut into outer space."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spaceship_One
SpaceShipOne now hangs in the National Air and Space Museum in Washington D.C.

'N' is the prefix for US-registered aircraft;

Scaled Composites SpaceShipOne - Wikipedia

SpaceShipTwo - Wikipedia
"Explosion: On 26 July, 2007 a fatal explosion occurred at the Mojave airport during a fuel flow test that included filling the oxidizer tank with 4,500 kg (10,000 pounds) of nitrous oxide followed by a 15 second cold flow injector test.
Though the tests did not ignite the gas, three employees were killed.
The SpaceShipTwo craft will take off from the Mojave Spaceport in California during testing.
Spaceport America (formerly Southwest Regional Spaceport), a $200 million spaceport in New Mexico partly funded by the state government, will become the permanent launch site when commercial launches begin."
