The test of the five-segment solid rocket motor--Ares Development Motor-1-–was scrubbed today 20 seconds before firing due to a failure of the auxiliary power unit.

The test of the five-segment solid rocket motor--Ares Development Motor-1-–was scrubbed today 20 seconds before firing due to a failure of the auxiliary power unit.
The next test opportunity is under evaluation.
Ares I First Stage Motor Test Today
The full-scale, full duration test is set for 3 p.m. EDT today and will provide valuable thrust, roll-control, acoustics and vibration data as engineers continue to design Ares I.
The five-segment solid rocket motor is capable of producing 22 million horsepower, equivalent to the energy produced by 25,882 race cars. Data will be collected during the test from 650 sensors to evaluate the motor's performance.
