国防部の金泰栄（キム・テヨン）長官は22日、国会で、米軍の戦術核兵器を韓半島に再配備する問題を検討したいと提案した。
米軍の戦術核兵器の再配備に関する主張は、06年10月9日に北朝鮮が1回目の核実験を行った後、韓国軍の元老を中心に提起された。
02年に発表された米国の核態勢見直しに関する報告書（NPR）によると、米国が保有する戦術核兵器は合計1620発で、内訳はB61系の核爆弾が1300発、トマホーク用核弾頭（W80−mod0）が320発となっている。
91年の時点で在韓米軍には、核爆弾や核砲弾をはじめ、特殊核爆破機材（SADM）、核地雷など合わせて151−249発の戦術核兵器が配備されていた。"
